Shenzhen Fine Art Institute
In August 2015, Shenzhen Fine Art Institute was the venue for this retrospective exhibition of lithographs by Paul Croft. The exhibition, curated by Zeng Jieqiong and framed by the Institute comprised of 58 prints and included work made during the last 30 years. The show incorporated images from several series including: Alphabets and Lexicons, Les Animaux et Amulets à Musée, Between Spaces and Water Walls. The exhibition opening was well attended with visitors coming from as far afield as Changsha and Hong Kong.
An accompanying catalogue was produced for the show.
Shenzhen Fine Art Institute is the equivalent of a government funded Academy that employs approximately 35 artists, researchers and academics, who are mainly based in the Shenzhen area. Nominated, invited and appointed for life, each of these academicians receive a studio space at the Institute and have access to the excellent facilities including a large library, housed at their Louhu site. The Institute aims to promote excellence in Fine Art, and artists from the Creative Department engage in oil-painting, Chinese ink painting, sculpture and printmaking.
The Institute is also responsible for researching historical and contemporary art and artists and their work, curating exhibitions and publishing catalogues, articles and books on a broad range of subjects. The remit of the organisation also extends to the promotion of Chinese art abroad and the fostering of International links.
The exhibition was reviewed by local press and TV and by Artron - one of China's leading art websites.
During the second week in Shenzhen, Croft spent some time working at The Guanlan International Printmaking Base. Working with the printer Xie Re - he produced a lithograph in a small edition. See details at: Guanlan
