During the pandemic, having the opportunity to make drawings on paper, using pencil, pen, ink, crayons, pastels and paint became a visceral source of relief from having to always engage digitally through platforms such as Teams, Skype, Zoom and WhatsApp. Lockdown thus became time for reflection and review. Daily walks across to the harbour and Tan Y Bwlch in Aberystwyth inspired a change in direction, in which flotsam and jetsam and the general paraphernalia associated with fishing boats enabled abstract compositions to evolve, later realized through lithography, drypoint and linocut.

This series of drawings made using ink and oil pastel, were thus inspired by rudders, gunwales, masts and rigging.
